The real cost of driving

In my 21 years of selling cars, it still amazes me how many people buy based on "incentives" alone. I had one lady walk out because "she got a bigger discount" on her last purchase. I showed her the old bill of sale, where even though the discount she got was bigger - the price she paid was actually higher 8 years ago. Another customer, said no to a $12,000 discount off the MSRP of a new truck - because he could not have 0% financing. As I see it, the cost of driving a vehicle is made up of:
  1. The price you pay to buy it.
  2. The cost of financing your purchase.
  3. The gas you put in it.
  4. The maintenance to keep it running.
  5. The repairs out of waranty.
  6. The above figures are then off set by the amount you get for your vehicle when you are finished with it.

By focusing only on the "incentives" could cost you more. A huge incentive to get you to buy something, might be offset by poor re-sale value down the road. If you pay $20 per month more for one vehicle or another, this might be offset by better fuel economy. A higher monthly payment, might be offset by a higher trade in value down the road.

By all means, do your research. But remember it is the vehicle that will be in your driveway for next few years. Don't settle for something, simply because the incentive is slightly better than offered on another vehicle.

Great time to get a sports car

Timing is everything. When new products are released you tend to pay a premium if you want to be the first owner. However, if you are willing to wait a little while...great deals can be found. Similarly, the price of sports cars is at a premium in the spring time. Now that the leaves have started to change colours, there are not as many days left to enjoy driving with the top down. The time is right to take advantage of some end of the season savings on sports cars. Here at Ed Learn Ford Lincoln, we have 6 Mustangs on our used car lot. This includes 2010 V6 convertible; 2010 GT convertible; 2009 Roush RTC modified Mustang GT; 2008 GT coupe; 2008 V6 coupe & 2006 GT coupe with Super Charger. In addition, we have a 2008 Mazda Miata GT convertible. We have a 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera S with only 27,500 km! Finally a Porsche Boxster. The time is right...contact us today for all of your sports car needs 905-684-8791 or toll-free 1-877-218-4048.

Good time to be in the car market

October is a good time to be in the market for a vehicle. There are so many choices and so many great deals available. Most manufacturer's are looking to clear out any remaining 2010 models. Plus, the new model year is under way. As many people have been buying new vehicles, it increases the number of available used vehicles (local trade ins & lease returns). So, the selection is great.

Wondering what customers are thinking

I have been part of the sales team here at Ed Learn Ford Lincoln since 1989. Over the years I have met a lot of interesting people. They have bought many vehicles from me. I appreciate and value my customers. I want to be of service to them.
Today, the people that I am wondering about are the ones who make a career of car shopping. They never buy, but they will come in several times. They will send in e-mail requests for more and more information. Then when I talk to some of the other sales people, I find they have been talking to the same people. A recent customer came in with not less than 25 newspaper ads for a variety of vehicles. Plus, he also had a folder of reviews he printed off the internet. Obviously he had spent many hours doing research into his car purchase. I have no problem with people wanting to make the right decision...Here was my issue - he did not fit in the cars he was asking about! He was doing all of this research on sub-compact cars and he is too big to fit. No matter how attractive the price, payments & fuel economy - there was no way he could get in the car...Why would he not listen to me and at least look at & consider a more appropriately sized vehicle?
